The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra is coming to Cades Cove. Starting at 3pm on Saturday June 13, the Orchestra will be performing in an outdoor concert with a variety of classical compositions. The concert is being sponsored by the Friends of the Smokies and is part of the Smokies’ 75th anniversary celebration. The concert will be held in the Cable Mill area, located at the midway point in the loop road.

The orchestra will be led by Music Director Lucas Richman and will include U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander who will perform on the Grand Piano. Senator Alexander also preformed during the national park’s 50th anniversary.

Due to limited parking, the event will be limited to those who purchased a vehicle pass in advance. Only 1,500 hundred passes will be sold. They are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cost of the event is $25 for vehicles with up to a 15 person capacity and $50 for larger vehicles. Passes can only be obtained by calling the orchestra’s box office at 865-291-3310 and will be sold starting Saturday March 28 and ending April 3, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Friends of the Smokies, a non-profit organization setup to assist the National Park Service preserve and protect the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Since 1993, Friends of the Smokies has raised over 24 million dollars for park projects including $500,000  towards the construction of the new Oconaluftee Visitor Center.
