On Wednesday September 9, Govenor Phill Bredesen announced that the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be featured on the U.S. mint’s new series of quarters featuring national parks and historic sites.

The “America the Beautiful Quarters” will start next year with five quarters with images of national parks in each of the U.S. states.

Five quarters will be issued annually starting with Arkansas’s Hot Springs National Park. The Tennessee quarter is scheduled for 2014.

“This honor comes at the perfect time as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the park’s dedication,”said Bredesen. “An astounding 10 million visitors from all over the world enjoy the Great Smoky Mountains every year.”

At the 2009 Golden Ticket Awards, Dollywood won several trophy including the park’s first-ever for Best Shows and a second consecutive win for Best Christmas Event.

Dollywood also took home third place honors for Friendliest Park and Cleanest Park as well as forth place honors for Best Food and Best Water Ride for the Mountain Sidewinder.

The Golden Ticket Awards are presented to the “best of the best” in the amusement industry and calculated from an international poll conducted by Amusement Today magazine. Surveys were sent to a database of experienced and well-traveled amusement park fans around the world – in balanced geographical regions – asking them to rate the “bests” in 25 categories such as amusement parks, roller coasters, shows, friendliest staff and water rides.

Congratulations to Dollywood and staff on this impressive win.
