Happy Valetine’s Day from all of us a Smokies Blog! We hope you had a fine time of the day whereever you may be, but if you spent it with us in the Smokies all the better!

Bass Pro Shop off of Exit 407 on I-40 is in the middle of their Boat Show right now, which is free to all who are interested in it! Drawings, seminars and activities have been and will be happening all throughout the week until the 20, so you have plenty of time to make the trek if you haven’t yet. Check out the info for the Sevierville Bass Pro Shop location if you want to prepare for spring fishing!

Speaking of fishing, the water should be rising up again over at Douglas Lake soon, which will bring in a new breed of tourism to the Smokies. Having grown up near them all my life, I have a lot of fond memories of the area and it remains popular grounds for fishing tournaments, boating and general relaxing. It’s just down the road in Sevierville. Not everything has to be about the attractions, after all!

In other news, the Black Bear Jamboree has officially shut down to make room for the new Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Feud. The location is still the same, just to the right of the Titanic Exhibit and will open with a brand new show and a brand new look. The show is brought to you by the same folks who did the previous show, The Miracle Theater, Comedy Barn and more in town: Fee Hedrick Family Entertainment. Tickets are already available, so act fast!

Well, Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow, so an early Spring is supposedly on the way. That means good for you and any trips to the Smokies you may have planned! Going in the winter is the best time to visit all of the sites with little of the traffic you come to know and “love” from the area. Go for it!

The Winter Heritage Festival is happening this weekend in Townsend, which you can read all about in one of our previous posts. For those interested in Appalachia in the Winter and how we survived those long ago, look no further!

The one downside to these “off season” months is the lack of major events, but many of your favorite sites will still be open and ready for entertainment. The Titanic Exhibit, countless dinner and theater shows, the shopping? All there! Dollywood is currently closed until March 26, but there’s still plenty to do in the region. So have a little fun with the lack of trip stress!
